Whitney Plantation is an award-winning museum located in Wallace, Louisiana on the west bank of the Mississippi River in St. John the Baptist Parish. Located on the grounds of a former rice, indigo and sugar plantation that operated from 1752 - 1975, today this museum educates the public about the history and legacies of slavery in the United States. Whitney Plantation is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district. Since opening to the public in December 2014, the museum has greeted over 650,000 visitors from all over the world. In addition to daily guided and self-guided tours for visitors ranging from school children to adults, the museum offers special programs throughout the year.
