GiVE NOLA DAY

New Orleans Trad Jazz Camp

About this Organization

The New Orleans Trad Jazz Camp is excited to celebrate it's 15th anniversary in June of 2025! NOTJC was founded when 3 women discovered they had a passion to create a program that people from all over the world could attend and learn early jazz in the city of New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz. Currently run by Executive Director Banu Gibson and Production Director Leslie Cooper, the jazz camp takes place for a week in the summer at a historic hotel in the center of the French Quarter. The program is open to adult musicians who are proficient on their chosen instrument, and scholarships are available for younger students wishing to learn more about early jazz. Attendees receive instruction in ensembles, private lessons, and sectionals from a faculty of renowned jazz musicians and can attend morning lectures about different topics related to the history of jazz and the traditions of New Orleans. Campers also have the opportunity to play in nightly jam sessions, play in an afternoon concert at Preservation Hall, take part in a traditional second line, and play a final concert that is open to the public at the end of the week.
