The comprehensive range of direct services offer help ease the burden of having a NICU baby or experiencing infant loss by reducing the out-of-pocket "nonmedical" costs, providing education, and offering peer support to NICU families. Within the past several years, the Saul's Light NICU Family Fund has donated nearly $150,000 to more than 700 families. These contributions help cover the costs of transportation, lodging, meals, and emergency bill payments, and allow parents the time to participate in their baby's care. Since 2015, we have formed partnerships with Ochsner Health System, Children's Hospital, East Jefferson General Hospital, and Touro Infirmary. Each partnership includes the establishment of a Little NICU Library, which is filled with books for parents to share with their babies. This reading initiative promotes bonding and intimacy, cognitive development, and is a way for both parent and baby to de-stress. Our organization also offers the opportunity for NICU families to spend more time and develop lifelong memories with their newborn who has passed by donating cooling cot to local hospitals.
