This GiveNOLA Day, we are asking for your support to help purchase a new four-person rowing shell (boat), which will open racing opportunities for our rowers. Our club continues to grow, and this boat will help us expand the number of people who can practice at once. On the road at regattas, the boat will give our Varsity Juniors rowers a competitive edge in close races. Did you know the sport of rowing has a long history in New Orleans dating back to 1835? We want more people to experience this lifelong activity Rowing is a unique sport that helps youth build fitness, confidence, and life skills. NORC's Juniors program and RowNOLA Initiative gets kids rowing by: - Introducing youth to the sport via on-water learn-to-row events and by visiting schools with indoor rowing equipment. - Creating low-stakes, high-fun squads to encourage long-term participation in the sport without the pressure to travel for competition. - Creating a scholarship fund to allow motivated athletes to participate on the NORC Varsity travel team, which practices 4-5x per week, with travel to regional and national regattas
