GiVE NOLA DAY

Louisiana Creole Research Association, Inc.

About this Organization

Known as LA Creole, our all-volunteer organization was founded in 2004 as a New Orleans based non-profit. We assist Creoles of Color in researching their ancestry, provide programs about Creole Culture for members and the public, and celebrate the legacy of our people. As Louisiana Creoles are often misunderstood, we work hard to ensure our state's Creole history and culture is appreciated and shared around the world. La Creole presents two programs each year, free and open to the public. One recent program, Ralliez-Vous! included a public forum followed by the unveiling of a historic marker on the New Orleans Tribune building, site of America's first Black daily newspaper. Another recent program, Assemblée! A Celebration of the History & Legacy of Economy Hall, featured renowned author Fatima Shaik. We have proudly issued 15 volumes of the highly respected annual, "LaCréole, A Journal of Creole History and Genealogy." In 2021, we published the acclaimed book Family Legacies: Our History Told Through Stories and Tributes. This collection of 100 biographical narratives, tributes, and memoirs won the International Afro-American Historical & Genealogical Society Book Award!
