Humane Society of Louisiana
About this Organization
The Humane Society of Louisiana leads the fight against cruelty statewide. Our charity rescues animals from abuse and neglect and operates multiple programs to prevent cruelty and to promote kindness. This life-saving work is particularly needed, as more than half of the state's parishes lack any kind of local animal shelter or rescue organization.
Some of our programs include: Cruelty Investigation and Prevention, Spay-LA, Pet Adoption Transports, Disaster Relief and grassroots lobbying for tougher animal protection laws. We also run the annual Mardi Gras Horse Adoption Program in New Orleans. We operate three animal care facilities: the Enoch J. Donaldson Animal Sanctuary, Merry Wood Refuge and the Tylertown Animal Transport Center. Our hands-on programs aid thousands of homeless shelter pets, low income animal caregivers, injured wild creatures and more each year.
For more than 30 years, the Humane Society of Louisiana has worked to make our state a kinder place, advocating for more public shelters and improved services for animals. Animal defenders are urged to support this important work, on behalf of Louisiana's abused, neglected and homeless animals.
