GiVE NOLA DAY

Lafitte Greenway Partnership

About this Organization

In early 2005, a group of local residents began advocating to transform an abandoned rail line land into a new park and path for their community. What began in the minds of those friends grew into a non-profit and community-wide advocacy initiative to create a new public space that would connect people to the great outdoors and to each other and engender economic, environmental, health, and cultural benefits for New Orleans. Opened in 2015, the Lafitte Greenway is a 2.6-mile public bicycle and pedestrian trail connecting six historic New Orleans neighborhoods from Armstrong Park to City Park. Used by 500,000+ people per year, the Greenway is the ultimate connector. A space to bike and walk to school and work, to gather with neighbors as a community, and to exercise and play. The Lafitte Greenway features sports fields, playgrounds, outdoor fitness parks, grassy lawns, a growing tree canopy, energy-efficient lighting, public art, and innovative stormwater management systems. Lafitte Greenway Partnership is the City's and the community's nonprofit partner to build, program, and promote the Greenway as a great public space.
