Crime Survivors Nola

About this Organization

In 2003, Rose Preston lost her husband James and mother-in-law Patrina to homicide in New Orleans. In the aftermath of their murders, Rose struggled to navigate complicated tasks and systems - all while dealing with unimaginable grief. She ultimately decided to create a guide to help others through similar experiences, and with the help of local survivors, the guide has since expanded to include many other types of violence.

You may be surprised to learn that nationally less than 1 in 10 survivors receive professional support from a service provider after violence. Help is available, but unfortunately many don't know where to find it.

Crime Survivors NOLA provides a free book and website resource guide to support survivors and loved ones through the aftermath of violence, and we have given out thousands of books since 2009. Our guide is victim-centered, written by survivors, and covers important topics such as practical and financial issues, mental health, and the criminal legal system. It also includes a comprehensive list of resources.

Your donation can help us continue our work to support crime survivors and families through the most difficult moments of their lives.
