About this Organization

Since our beginnings in 1989, The activation and impact of the Congo Square Preservation Society has resulted in over 1.000,000 people witnessing and participating In Congo Square ceremonies, activities and tours. - In 1993, our organization led the effort, with assistance from the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic that placed Congo Square on the National Register of Historic Places. - In 1997, we brought together community support from Tambourine & Fan, the National Park Service, the International House of Blues Foundation, the City of New Orleans and others to erect the iconic Congo Square Historic Marker. - Since 1989 we have hosted Weekly free interactive Sunday Afternoon Drum & Dance Gatherings in Congo Square for local New Orleans residents and international visitors. - Since 2013, we have conducted over 100 Congo Square Living Classroom Field-trips for students from kindergarten, elementary, high school, and university levels both locally and internationally. In 2017, we launched the monthly Congo Square Sacred Marketplace that has included Theatrical presentations, Black Indians of New Orleans Presentations, Brass Bands & more
